What does the word onomatopoeia mean?  Simply it's a "noisy" word that imitates the sound it is naming.  It may be a noun, an adjective or a verb.

During the next few weeks of Term 2 2015 students from Stages 2 and 3 will be collecting, categorising and making word clouds using onomatopoeic words they have found in books and on this website, Onomatopoeia sounds like.... Groups will create onomatopoeic sentences to describe animals sourced from DK Find Out animals, and /or the CSIRO Science images. These should make some wonderful class slideshows.
