ONE WORLD, MANY STORIES - 2011 CHILDREN'S BOOK WEEK This year we will be reading all the Early Childhood and 5 of the Picture Books of the Year, as well as 3 of the Eve Pownall Information Books that have been entered in this year's competition. You will have a chance to vote on the ones that you think should win their category, so as we read together be thinking about the one you would choose. But first, let's think about this year's theme: One world, Many stories. For as long as we can remember people have been telling stories - to teach, to entertain, to pass down the history of those people. Many cultures have similar stories, explaining how the world became and about beliefs. As people travelled around the world, so did their stories, translated from the many languages of the countries that make up our world. Click on the links below to find out more.

Congratulations to Pravin Jaisankar who correctly identified the newest country in the world to be South Sudan which celebrated its independence on July 7 this year (2011). The colours of the flag (according to Wikipedia, 29.07.2011) "are said to represent the South Sudanese people (black), peace (white), the blood shed for freedom (red), the land (green) and the waters of the Nile (blue); the gold star, the Star of Bethlehem, represents unity of the states of South Sudan." It was adopted following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement that ended the Second Sudanese Civil War.

RESULTS OF EPS VOTING FOR CBC BOOKS OF THE YEAR, 2010 After reading all 12 of the Shortlisted 2010 CBC books in the Early Childhood and Picture Book of the Year Categories, our students voted for their favourites. There were definitely two clear winners. We didn't agree with the National judges' decisions but we certainly enjoyed the ones we voted for. The theme this year is "Across the Story Bridge." You might like to put the theme banner together by visiting jigsaw (from Ipswich TL network). There are lots of fun activities connected with these books. Visit this page each week to see what we will be doing in Library lessons. We have read The Wrong Book and Fox and Fine Feathers by Narelle Oliver. Thank you Mrs Buckler for permission to link to your wonderful Book Week and School Daze site. Visit the Bata Shoe Museum here to check out shoes Around the World and then find out how to make blind-contour drawings of your shoe. Rebecca Cool did Isabella's Garden illustrations in a folk art style. Visit Adri's art angel to see a time-lapse film about how artists create pictures in this style.
